A Ukrainian civilian freight train has come under attack by a Russian drone. The driver was injured, but is not in danger of losing his life.
The attack occurred in Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast, close to the front line. “As a result of the strike on the locomotive, the driver sustained a shrapnel wound to his leg. His life is not currently in danger – the railway worker was promptly treated and hospitalised”, Ukrainian Railways writes on Telegram. The drone strike failed to halt train operations.
Ukraine’s rail operator points out that attacks on rail infrastructure and rolling stock continue, even amid calls for a ceasefire. “Despite the dangers of working in areas near the front line, Ukrainian Railways’ drivers continue to work boldly, wearing bulletproof vests and helmets, carrying medical kits to provide assistance, and most importantly, taking risks and responsibility, as it is critical to keep the railway moving where it is still possible”, the company concludes.
