On January 5, just after 17:00, Alaska Airlines Flight 1282 took off from Portland International Airport (PDX) for Ontario International Airport (ONT) in California. The three-month-old Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft carried 177 passengers and crew. Around six minutes after takeoff, a door plug on the aircraft's port side blew off, causing a violent decompression of the aircraft. The pilots declared an emergency and returned immediately to Portland International Airport (PDX).
