Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) is expanding its locomotive fleet. It will get seven new diesel mainline locomotives and spare parts from the Chinese rolling stock manufacturer CRRC.
The total value of the agreement is 26 million US dollars (23,1 million euros). “Equipped with advanced technologies and innovative traction systems, the modern AC50-type mainline diesel locomotive stands out for its high traction power, larger fuel capacity, and reliability”, ADY explains.
With growing rail volumes along international corridors running through Azerbaijan, the new locomotives should help manage growing demands. ADY highlights the International North – South Transport Corridor as a direction with an increasing need for transportation capacity. “Considering the continued growth of transit freight along the international corridors passing through Azerbaijan, ADY boosts its efforts for renewing and expanding its locomotive fleet to ensure the safe transportation of cargo”, the company says.
ADY is already looking beyond the current locomotive purchase. The company says that it is planning to acquire an additional 14 mainline locomotives “in the next stage”.
