Why Doesn’t The USDOT Regulate Airline Seating And Passenger Comfort?

Depending on your favourite airline, you may feel like airplane seats have shrunk over the years. This raises the question as to why the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) doesn’t have minimum standards for passenger seating or comfort. The DOT, and subsequently, the FAA, enforces aviation safety rules, but it has continued dismissing calls for a standard seat size regulation. As a result, airlines continue to pack in as many seats as possible, especially low-cost carriers.
