The merger between Delta Air Lines and Northwest Airlines, which was announced on April 15th, 2008, forever changed the landscape of the American commercial aviation industry. When it took place, the merger created what was, at that point, the world's largest commercial airline, with the new carrier operating a collective 786 aircraft.
