Fatal Holding Pattern Mistake: The Crash Of Dan-Air Flight 1008

On April 25, 1980, Dan-Air Flight 1008 crashed in a forest on Tenerife's Mount La Esperanza during an unpublished holding pattern in the area of high ground. Operated by a Boeing 727-46 (registration G-BDAN), Flight 1008 was a tourist charter flight from Manchester Airport (MAN) to Tenerife-Norte Los Rodeos Airport (TFN) in Spain's Canary Islands. The crash resulted in the deaths of all 138 passengers and eight crew members onboard.
