In January 2024, Alaska Airlines and Boeing were in the news for all the wrong reasons when one of the carrier’s 737 MAX 9 aircraft suffered a decompression following a blowout of one of its door plugs. The incident occurred just after the aircraft in question departed from Portland, and it was able to safely return to the Oregonian city with no fatalities (and only three injuries) among its 177 occupants.
