It was September 20, 1989. At 14:00, the crew reported for duty at Baltimore – Washington International Airport to fly the Boeing 737-400 to LaGuardia Airport, New York. The flight was delayed due to bad weather and finally landed at 20:40. They were expected to fly onward to Norfolk, Virginia, but the dispatcher canceled the flight and unloaded the passengers. The next plan was to fly to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, North Carolina empty.
