Australia’s major airlines are resisting a push for mandatory compensation schemes in the country’s commercial aviation sector. Yesterday, representatives from Virgin Australia and flag carrier Qantas argued that such initiatives would do nothing to improve performance, and, in fact, run the risk of having increased costs passed on to passengers in the form of higher ticket prices to cover the financial outlay.

Back on March 8th we reported that American Airlines was ‘double catering’ its flights to London Heathrow – meaning that flights heading to the UK capital would carry meals for passengers on the flight returning to the states. It’s not standard practice given most airlines contract a caterer at a major airport like Heathrow to handle meals. And so, after about 2 months, the oneworld alliance member has finally resolved its catering issues at the London area airport.
