How The Super Hornet’s New Preferred Air-To-Air Missile Loadout Works

The US Navy now has a preferred air-to-air missile loadout for its Boeing F/A-18E/F Super Hornets called a “Murder Hornet” loadout. This is according to a list of 2024 US Navy accomplishments released by the US Navy’s Chief of Naval Operations. The loadout is of four AIM-9X Sidewinder heat-seeking and five AIM-120 AMRAAM active radar missiles – both made by Raytheon, a RTX Corporation company – that has come about to address the need for Super Hornets to engage slow-moving, low radar return drones as much as full-size combat aircraft.
