Despite its early promise, the Airbus A380 will likely be looked back on as one of the commercial aviation industry’s most notable white elephants. With just a handful of operators flying the 250-odd examples that were produced, shifts in industry trends have largely rendered the superjumbo to be relatively obsolete on most routes. In many senses, the double decker quadjet was the right aircraft at the wrong time.
