London Heathrow Airport (LHR) opened in March 1946 and has since grown to become the fourth-busiest airport in the world, processing more than 79 million passengers in 2023, of which almost 75 million were international passengers. When looking solely at international passenger numbers, the airport rises to second-busiest, behind Dubai International Airport (DXB), which saw a total of 87 million:
