The US Navy announced today that it has awarded defense contractor, Northrop Grumman, the contract to replace the aging E-6B Mercury with the E-130J. The contract is worth $3.5 billion. The new aircraft will be built from Lockheed Martin’s popular C-130J Super Hercules tactical airlifter (specifically the lengthened C-130J-30 variant).
