At last count, Middle Eastern airline Emirates had more than 260 aircraft in its fleet, with another 300 on order with Airbus and Boeing. While all the parts of an airline need to work at high levels, a key part of the Emirate’s operation is building and maintaining a pipeline of highly trained and qualified pilots in a world where finding aviators at short notice is not a practical solution.
