Gulf Air has filed a request with the United States Department of Transportation ( DOT) to allow the airline to operate direct flights between Bahrain and the US using its own aircraft.

While Boeing 747 aircraft in passenger service are somewhat few and far between these days, examples of the older 747-200 variant are even more so.One particularly interesting example active in recent years has been a testbed plane belonging to Rolls-Royce. The British engine manufacturer had a 45-year-old 747-200B on its books used to test turbofans on flights out of Tucson in Arizona.
