If the COVID-19 pandemic taught aviation nothing else, it did show the danger of outsourcing strategically important parts of the business to third-party providers. When airlines needed to get grounded aircraft back into service, many were stymied by the lack of slots in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facilities, leaving them short of much-needed capacity when demand surged.
