The rise of the Shenyang J-15D Roaring Shark, aka Shenyang J-17, is a development of the Russian Sukhoi Su-33 Naval Flanker has been tracked for the past few years on social media and by the South China Morning Post. Alongside the J-15D is the J-16D, the land-based version based on the Shenyang J-11 Chinese Flanker. The J-15D and J-16D are intended for airborne electronic attack, just as the Boeing EA-18G Growler is and symbolize significant beginnings in the PRC naval airpower and airborne electronic attack.
