There would not be all that many passengers who have not been caught out with something in their hand baggage that does not pass muster at the security screening check, particularly as rules change on what's allowable depending on the airport and jurisdiction. Australia's Brisbane Airport collects its fair share of items surrendered at security screening but has found a good use for what otherwise would end up in the bin.
