Despite multiple efforts by senior US Air Force brass to retire it, the Fairchild Republic A-10 Warthog (officially the Thunderbolt II, though nobody ever calls it by its legal name in conversation, the proud legacy of the Thunderbolt name in US military aviation notwithstanding) keeps on soldiering on.
