Taking place at RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal from 6 to 17 July, Exercise Southern Cross 26 “seeks to practice operating as a trilateral task force within a contemporary, high-end, warfighting environment”, according to a statement from Defence.

During the launch, two Australian-supplied AGM-84 Harpoon guided missiles were successfully fired by No. 5 Squadron and struck the decommissioned target ship, USS Juneau, in the Philippine Sea on 27 June this year.

The purpose-built facility will house the National Integrated Air and Missile Defence Ecosystem, designed to support next-generation IAMD systems and bolster Australia’s sovereign defence capability.

New Zealand Defence Force aircraft and crew from No. 5 Squadron undertook simulating finding and tracking submarines in the Pacific as part of Exercise Valiant Shield 26 based out of Guam.
