Speaking to Australian Aviation, WSI CEO Simon Hickey said passengers should be able to easily reach St Marys from the airport and vice versa with or without the metro. It comes as works proceed on the platforms for the metro station outside the terminal.

The “Eastern Express” service, launching on 31 August, will connect the airport with Box Hill Central via Watsonia and Doncaster, while the “Sunshine Express” starting 9 November will connect the airport directly with Brimbank for the first time.

Domestic and international traffic both grew year on year during the three months from April to June this year, with 6.09 million domestic and 3.94 million passengers. In total, passenger numbers grew 3 per cent over the same period in 2024.

The works will include expansion of the terminal to both the north and south, as well as a larger check-in area with overhauled technology and 25 per cent more capacity, and the addition of up to nine more aircraft parking positions.

Passengers on two inbound Qantas flights to Sydney – QF144 from Auckland, and QF122 from Queenstown – are now able to access the Australia Digital Travel Declaration (ATD), following a successful trial period at Brisbane Airport.
