Pratt & Whitney Engine Issues See Spirit Airlines Up $200m In Compensation

Spirit Airlines is to receive up to $200 in credit in compensation as part of Pratt & Whitney’s ongoing engine woes and legal settlements.

The news comes as the airline is reducing its capacity with deferred deliveries and the accelerated removals and inspections of the PW1100G engines.

Spirit Airlines continues shoring up its liquidity, with the agreement signed shortly after its deal with Pratt & Whitney.

A new directive by the FAA has added more engine parts to be inspected by PW1100G operators, resulting in potential further disruption.

The payments are estimated to boost the airline’s liquidity between $150 and $200 million.

Operators in Asia and the Pacific will have the chance to come together at safety conference in June.
