Russia’s Latest Plan To Source New Aircraft Amid Western Sanctions Involves Africa’s Largest Airline

Ethiopian Airlines’ modern fleet is of much interest to Russia amid heavy Western sanctions.

The railway forms part of Ethiopia’s wider strategy to diversify its maritime access.

Boeing has not delivered a 777-300ER since April 2022. However, Ethiopian Airlines’ new aircraft operated its first flight in 2020.

The airline is showing no signs of stopping down in its dominance of the African aviation market.

The initial phase of the project, costing $6 billion, would result in a new terminal capable of handling 60 million passengers per year.

These were the places where most of the carrier’s passengers went last year.

All these routes provide more than 15,000 monthly seats and are highly valued by the airline.

While the airline now operates a fair few flaghship aircraft, it had a handful of obscure aircraft types in its fleet.

The airline confirmed that no crew and passengers suffered injuries during the runway excursion.
