APM Terminals Aarhus and the Port of Aalborg agreed on launching a rail service between the two locations. “Initially, the train will arrive and depart once a week. During the coming period, the partners will also assess market demand and the potential for additional departures”, APM said.
The APM site in Aarhus is Denmark’s largest container terminal, while the inland port of Aalborg is the largest of its kind in the country. The new service is part of the Inland Hub Northern Jutland initiative launched by the Maersk subsidiary and the port of Aalborg. The project aims to link the Northern Jutland area to Aarhus and contribute to the modal shift to rail, APM added.
Moreover, the new connection will provide an additional alternative to shippers. “Going forward, they can use both the direct feeder service to Hamburg and the direct rail connection to Denmark’s largest container port in Aarhus and the international transport networks linked to it”.
