One of America’s largest ultra-low-cost carriers is setting its sights on the country’s biggest cities. The airline decided earlier this year to axe its base in neighboring Atlantic City and plans to open its next crew base at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Spirit Airlines will open a new crew base in Newark this September. Starting with 200 pilots, additional supervisory and support functions are expected to follow quickly.

As first reported by aeroTELEGRAPH, it was on June 4th that a Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 suffered a nose gear collapse at Frankfurt Airport. The incident occurred while the jet was preparing to operate a transatlantic service to Los Angeles.While the passengers who were set to fly on the service had not yet boarded at the time of the incident, the collapse did result in injuries to staff members.
