Green Cargo to take over Årsta intermodal terminal

Swedish operator Green Cargo closed a deal with Jernhusen to operate the Årsta intermodal terminal, just a few kilometres south of Stockholm. “Green Cargo will take over as terminal operator no earlier than 1 October 2026”, the company said, adding that the agreement will last until 2029.
The terminal serves as one of the main gateways for various types of goods reaching Sweden’s capital, from food to consumer and retail goods. “Green Cargo’s role as terminal operator and service provider is kept organisationally separate from the company’s operations as a railway company in order to ensure transparency, equal treatment and independence”, the Swedish operator highlighted.

Jernhusen’s terminal network

Jernhusen is a state-owned real estate company that owns five of the main intermodal terminals in Sweden. In addition to the Årsta facility, the other four terminals are in Malmö, Västerås, Helsingborg and Nässjö, the largest inland terminal in the Nordic region. These last four have been in stable operation for over a decade, while the one in Årsta will now see its fifth operator in 14 years. Prior to Green Cargo, the facility was operated by Bring Intermodal, a subsidiary of the Swedish Post.
