In January 1996, a remarkable series of events unfolded in the Brazilian city of Varginha. Witnesses reported a craft coming down, strange beings seen in the streets, and a rapid military response that quickly sealed off parts of the city. Over the years, the case has developed into one of the most compelling alleged crash-retrieval incidents in the modern UFO record, often referred to as “Brazil’s Roswell.” In this interview, I speak with filmmaker James Fox, whose documentary Moment of Contact: New Revelations presents the most thorough investigation of the Varginha case to date.
Fox has located and interviewed numerous first-hand witnesses, including several who had never spoken publicly before, and assembled powerful testimony about what occurred during those days in January 1996. Nearly thirty years later, the case continues to develop, raising serious questions about what was recovered, who was involved, and why such an extraordinary event remains largely unknown outside Brazil.
