The deal will combine the two operators’ first- and last-mile rail services and terminal infrastructure businesses across Canada and the United States.
The agreements increase the number of active operators on the South African rail network from one to 12 and are expected to add 24 million tonnes of annual freight capacity.
The working visit was intended to improve coordination with regional and Chinese partners on international freight movements, as ASEAN–China rail freight volumes depend on multiple national networks and interfaces rather than a single operator.
