It was Halloween, October 31st, 1979. Western Airlines flight 2605 was from Los Angeles International Airport to Mexico City International Airport and was nicknamed ‘The Nightowl’. The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 departed Los Angeles at 01:40 and was planned to land in Mexico City just before sunrise. There were 75 passengers and 13 crew members onboard.
