Why Was The Avro Vulcan Bomber So Loud?

Long before the late great Gene Rodenberry introduced American television audiences to the highly logical Vulcan extraterrestrial race via the Mr Spock character (R.I.P. Leonard Nimoy, gone but not forgotten) in the “Star Trek” franchise, there was Vulcan, the ancient Roman god of volcanic fire, metalworking, and the forge. In other words, the original Vulcan was a god of some rather noisy activities.
