Iraq plans more submarine cable landings at Al-Faw

There’s been a flurry of submarine cable deals in Iraq recently, including two contracts announced this week, one with Batelco and the other involving a company called Breeze Investments.

AzerTelecom and Kazakhtelecom said they have awarded a supervision services contract to subsea cable project management firm Pioneer Consulting to oversee construction of the Trans-Caspian Submarine Cable System connecting Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

Qatar-based Ooredoo Group announced on Thursday it has signed an agreement with Alcatel Submarine Networks (ASN) to build a new subsea cable connecting seven countries in the Gulf region.

Djibouti Telecom has announced plans to extend the regional subsea cable, Djibouti Africa Regional Express 1 (DARE1), southward along Africa’s east coast to broaden reach and enhance route diversity.
