4iG Group secures $282M for space and defence unit

The long-rumoured merger of Indonesian telcos XL Axiata and Smartfren moved another step closer to reality on Wednesday as parent companies Axiata Group and Sinar Mas announced they have officially signed an MoU to explore the proposed merger.

Amid public backlash, MTN Nigeria has reversed course on a move to increase the price of its 15GB data plan by 200% and issued an apology to customers, saying the tariff hike was a “mistake”.

Indian operator Bharti Airtel has reportedly prepaid its deferred spectrum liabilities to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). These high-interest liabilities related to spectrum acquired in the auctions of the year 2012 and 2015.
