Polish infrastructure manager PKP PLK awarded the contract for the construction of a direct railway connection to the port of Police. The initiative will especially benefit the chemical industry, with Grupa Azoty which owns 99,98% of the shares in the Police Port Authority.
The new line will be relatively short but essential, as it would take the railway even closer to the sea “allowing for the transshipment of cargo arriving by sea”. In total, the project entails the construction of a new railway line and five sidings of 750 metres each, the Police Port Authority said.
The total investment for the project is around 47,6 million euros. Most of it, over 34 million euros, will come from funds from the Connecting Europe Facility assigned to the port authority in September 2024. The contract was awarded to Torpol, a Polish company specialising in railway construction, and completion is expected in February 2028.
