Indian low-cost carrier Air India Express is trying to attract a particular segment of passengers who travel light and can take advantage of its unbundled type of fare strategy. The airline has introduced hand baggage-only fares that allow passengers to book a ticket at reduced prices if they’re not carrying any check-in luggage.

Heading into 2026, Air India continues to operate an incredibly diverse fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft with narrowbodies and widebodies from the European planemaker, and widebodies from the American planemaker. There are 187 aircraft in the mainline fleet with another 100-plus additional jets with regional subsidiary Air India Express. The mainline fleet has grown significantly since our last fleet video on Air India, largely thanks to the acquisition of Vistara and the absorption of its fleet into Air India’s operations.
