New intermodal terminal in Milan to get six gantry cranes from Künz

Künz will provide six gantry cranes for the future intermodal terminal in the Milano Smistamento area, in northern Italy. The investment for this initiative will be 31 million euros.
The facility, located east of Milan, is currently under construction on a currently decommissioned area. It will be managed by TerAlp, a company belonging to the Logistics Hub of the Italian railway holding Ferrovie dello Stato (FS). FS’ subsidiary Mercitalia Logistics and Swiss operator Hupac are also TerAlp shareholders.

The new terminal will be ready by 2026. The six gantry cranes provided by Künz will serve six tracks equipped to handle 750-metre trains. The total cost for the construction of the new terminal will revolve around 108 million euros, 67 of which are being financed by the Swiss Federal Office of Transport.
