The\u00a0South Gippsland railway line<\/strong>\u00a0is a partially closed railway line in\u00a0Victoria<\/a>,\u00a0Australia<\/a>. It was first opened in 1892, branching from the\u00a0Orbost line<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0Dandenong<\/a>, and extending to Port Albert. Much of it (the section up to\u00a0Leongatha<\/a>) remained open until December 1994 (passenger services finished the previous July). Today, only the section between Dandenong and\u00a0Cranbourne<\/a>\u00a0remains open for use. The section of the line from\u00a0Nyora<\/a>to Leongatha was used by the\u00a0South Gippsland Tourist Railway<\/a>\u00a0until it ceased operations in 2016. The section from Nyora to\u00a0Welshpool<\/a>, with extension trail to Port Welshpool and a portion of the former line at\u00a0Koo Wee Rup<\/a>, have been converted into the\u00a0Great Southern Rail Trail<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
