{"id":93910,"date":"2024-07-25T09:01:18","date_gmt":"2024-07-24T23:01:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/?p=116929"},"modified":"2024-07-25T09:01:18","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T23:01:18","slug":"celebrating-20-years-of-passenger-trains-to-ararat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=93910","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating 20 Years Of Passenger Trains To Ararat"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Ararat4.jpg\" alt=\"\" style=\"float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;\"><figcaption>Image\/Victoria&#8217;s Big Build<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">This month marks\u00a0<\/span>the 20<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary since V\/Line passenger trains returned to Ararat.<\/strong><span id=\"more-116929\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>V\/Line passenger trains started rolling into Ararat in July 2004 after a 10-year hiatus and the line continues to provide a vital public transport service to the communities of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/enviro-friendly-upgrades-for-ararat-to-maryborough-line\/\">western Victoria<\/a> today.<\/p>\n<p>The trains were welcomed back with community celebrations at Beaufort and Ararat stations in July 2004 following a significant investment by the Government to upgrade the track.<\/p>\n<p>Two decades on, the Government continues to invest in the Ararat Line, <span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">including <a href=\"https:\/\/bigbuild.vic.gov.au\/projects\/ararat-stabling\">upgraded stabling<\/a> to enable extra services to operate with modern and reliable VLocity trains.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"normaltextrun\">Member for Ripon Martha Haylett spoke about the importance of bringing back this service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"normaltextrun\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\">\u201cTwenty years on, our rural communities are still so grateful for the return of passenger rail to Beaufort and Ararat. I\u2019m proud to be part of a government that has delivered modern trains, daily services, and cheaper fares for our communities,\u201d she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">More than 60 weekly services now operate between Ararat and Melbourne each week, carrying 70,000 passengers on average each month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Planning is also underway for the introduction of two additional return services per day on Saturdays and Sundays on the Ararat Line, as part of almost 200 extra weekend services to be delivered across the network over coming years.<\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">The introduction of the regional fare cap means passengers travelling between Ararat and Melbourne now pay a maximum<\/span><a class=\"rpl-text-link rpl-u-focusable-inline\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">\u00a0<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">of $10.60 per day, compared to $31 for a one-way trip before the fare cap was introduced.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">In the first year of the fare cap, more than 708,000 passenger trips were taken on the Ararat Line.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/celebrating-20-years-of-passenger-trains-to-ararat\/\">Celebrating 20 Years Of Passenger Trains To Ararat<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/\">Rail Express<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<figure><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Ararat4.jpg\" alt=\"\"><figcaption>Image\/Victoria&#8217;s Big Build<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This month marks\u00a0the 20th anniversary since V\/Line passenger trains returned to Ararat.
