Greek MEP Elissavet Vozemberg-Vrionidi will be serving as its head for the next two and a half years.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-54753\"><\/span>Newly elected chair Vozemberg has been a long-time member of the European Parliament (EP), to which she was elected in 2014. Before that, she was a member of the Greek parliament between 2009 and 2012. In the EP, she is a member of the Christian Democrat coalition EPP as a representative of the Greek ruling party Nea Dimokratia, a right-wing liberal conservative party.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTransport and tourism policies are at the core of the European project and a cornerstone of our way of living. I am sure that together we will be able to achieve great results for both our citizens and businesses\u201d, Vozemberg commented on her election as chair.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/policy\/2024\/05\/13\/do-eu-citizens-know-whats-at-stake-with-the-eus-transport-policies\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/European-Commission-sign-128x128.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/policy\/2024\/05\/13\/do-eu-citizens-know-whats-at-stake-with-the-eus-transport-policies\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">Do EU citizens know what\u2019s at stake with the EU\u2019s transport policies?<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<p>Before her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.europarl.europa.eu\/news\/en\/press-room\/20240722IPR22998\/elissavet-vozemberg-vrionidi-elected-chair-of-tran-committee\"  rel=\"noopener\">election as chair<\/a>, Vozemberg served as a member of the transport committee between 2019 and 2024. Besides that, she does not have any other experience in the transport sector. She has also been the vice-chair of the women\u2019s right committee and a member of the civil liberties committee.<\/p>\n<p>Vozemberg will replace French MEP Karima Delli as the head of the transport committee.
