{"id":913,"date":"2023-03-11T06:56:29","date_gmt":"2023-03-10T20:56:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?guid=5ffc8d6cae75440bdd4451b247ab2f19"},"modified":"2023-03-11T06:56:29","modified_gmt":"2023-03-10T20:56:29","slug":"government-u-turns-on-transport-plan-blaming-cyclone-gabrielle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=913","title":{"rendered":"Government u-turns on transport plan, blaming Cyclone Gabrielle"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government is walking back aspects of its land transport plan, after they were published by the\u00a0*Herald*\u00a0this morning.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0*Herald*\u00a0revealed\u00a0Transport Minister Michael Wood and transport officials were putting together a plan that would place emissions reduction as a top priority of the transport plan, known as a Government Policy Statement on land transport or GPS.<\/p>\n<p>The plan included changing the way road maintenance funding is used, putting it towards cycleways and bus lanes as well as just fixing roads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe indicative transport priorities signed off by Cabinet last year will change in the wake of Cyclone Gabrielle,\u201d Wood said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are now working on an emergency-style GPS that will focus on the huge task of reconstruction of roads and bridges washed out by the cyclone and flooding, as well as building greater resilience so our transport network can better withstand the increasing frequency of extreme weather events like we have seen this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government is walking back aspects of its land transport plan, after they were published by the\u00a0Herald\u00a0this morning.
