{"id":9097,"date":"2024-02-06T16:38:12","date_gmt":"2024-02-06T06:38:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=9097"},"modified":"2024-02-06T16:38:12","modified_gmt":"2024-02-06T06:38:12","slug":"emergency-work-to-stabilise-a-cutting-near-fareham-in-southeast-hampshire-completed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=9097","title":{"rendered":"Emergency work to stabilise a cutting near Fareham in southeast Hampshire completed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Network Rail<\/a> has thanked customers travelling between Eastleigh and Fareham for their patience while emergency works to stabilise a cutting took place.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last week, Network Rail\u2019s engineers have worked around the clock to carry out urgent landslip prevention repairs at Fareham, which because of its nature couldn\u2019t be delayed.<\/p>\n<p>The work involved the installation of 289 soil steel nails, each 25 metres long, which have been drilled into the slope and reinforced with concrete to support the cutting and protect the railway.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Pocock, Network Rail\u2019s Wessex route director, said:\u00a0\u201cAfter the recent severe weather, our teams spotted land movement which meant we had to act quickly to prevent a much worse and disruptive landslip.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m really sorry that this emergency closure had to take place so close to works already planned for the February half term next week, but the safety of our customers and railway colleagues has been our priority.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019d like to thank customers and local residents for their continued patience and understanding while our teams complete the work needed stabilise the slope as quickly and safely as possible so we can get customers moving again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Engineers will return to Fareham for the second time from\u00a0<strong>Monday 12 to Friday 16 February<\/strong>\u00a0to carry out major track renewal works, which means that buses will replace trains.<\/p>\n<p>The lines between Southampton and Portsmouth Harbour and Eastleigh and Havant will be closed during that time, while we complete a rail renewal at Fareham and upgrade bits of rail over four platforms at Portsmouth Harbour.<\/p>\n<p>Peter Williams, South Western Railway\u2019s customer and commercial director said: \u201cWe\u2019re very grateful for our customers\u2019 continued patience.
