{"id":90575,"date":"2024-07-20T15:56:22","date_gmt":"2024-07-20T05:56:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=90575"},"modified":"2024-07-20T15:56:26","modified_gmt":"2024-07-20T05:56:26","slug":"historic-train-to-pass-through-town","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=90575","title":{"rendered":"Historic train to pass through town"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>The clock will turn back quite a few years today when we have a visit from the Riverlander steam train featuring engine R707.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The train will be en route to Deniliquin for a couple of nights before calling into Moama to see the Moama Lights on the way home to Melbourne on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For those not aware of local rail history, the section of line from Echuca to Deniliquin was not originally part of Victorian Railways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rather, it, and the bridge over the Murray River at Echuca, were financed and constructed by the landholders with properties along the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project was designed to enable them to have supplies delivered more quickly \u2013 and get their grain and other farm produce to market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another interesting thing about the early trains was that rather than coal they ran on red gum timber.
