The new locomotives will enable heavier traction in transalpine transport.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-54619\"><\/span>According to Siemens, the manufacturer of the locomotives, SBB Cargo commissioned S\u00fcdleasing to order the locomotives. The Swiss company will be leasing the locomotives from S\u00fcdleasing on a flexible long-term basis. Siemens will be providing maintenance for a period of 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>The order includes the so-called \u201cXLoad\u201d package, which increases the traction capability of the locomotives and grows its hauling capacity. Siemens says that XLoad \u201cenables heavier trains to be run in single traction on the Swiss north-south axis, eliminating the need for a second four-axle booster locomotive.\u201d They can reach a speed of up to 160 kilometres per hour.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/rolling-stock\/2024\/03\/19\/db-cargo-to-get-150-hybrid-lighter-locomotives-from-siemens\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/DB-Cargo-Siemens-128x128.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/rolling-stock\/2024\/03\/19\/db-cargo-to-get-150-hybrid-lighter-locomotives-from-siemens\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">DB Cargo to get 146 hybrid, lighter locomotives from Siemens<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>Transalpine transport<\/h2>\n<p>SBB Cargo will use the 20 new locomotives for transalpine transport, and are allowed to operate in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy and the Netherlands. All locomotives are equipped with ETCS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us, Vectron is the ideal locomotive for providing interoperable service between the Netherlands and Italy.
