No less than 80 per cent will go to rail projects, which is at least 5,5 billion euros. The EU highlights Rail Baltica, the Lyon-Turin railway and the Fehmarnbelt tunnel as major beneficiaries.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-54543\"><\/span>There are 11 rail projects with importance for freight traffic that will get a grant of over 100 million euros. Rail Baltica will get two grants of more than 1 billion euros in total for engineering, construction, planning and land acquisition. The remaining major investments go to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The construction of the <strong>Turin &#8211; Lyon<\/strong> line, including the Mont-Cenis base tunnel (700 million euros)<\/li>\n<li>The modernisation of the <strong>\u010cesk\u00e1 T\u0159ebov\u00e1<\/strong> railway junction, a major rail node in Czechia (290 million euros)<\/li>\n<li>Preparations and works on the southern rail ring of <strong>Budapest<\/strong>, especially the Kelenfold &#8211; Ferencvaros section (290 million euros)<\/li>\n<li>The modernisation of the <strong>Bialystok &#8211; Osowiec<\/strong> railway in Poland, which is part of Rail Baltica (approximately 223 million euros)<\/li>\n<li>The German <strong>Karlsruhe &#8211; Basel<\/strong> railway capacity upgrade (approximately 180 million euros)<\/li>\n<li>The completion of the <strong>Fehmarnbelt tunnel<\/strong> between Germany and Denmark (approximately 160 million euros)<\/li>\n<li>An upgrade on the <strong>Skierniewice &#8211; Pilawa<\/strong> rail section in Poland (145 million euros)<\/li>\n<li>Germany &#8211; Poland rail connection upgrade between <strong>Angerm\u00fcnde and Szczecin<\/strong> (approximately 132 million euros)<\/li>\n<li>The Greek <strong>Thessaloniki &#8211; Promahonas<\/strong> railway electrification upgrade (approximately 112 million euros)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2024\/04\/03\/european-transport-sector-calls-for-more-eu-funding\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/European-Commission-sign-128x128.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2024\/04\/03\/european-transport-sector-calls-for-more-eu-funding\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">European transport sector calls for more EU-funding<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>Largest Connecting Europe Facility call ever<\/h2>\n<p>The seven billion euro investment is the largest set of grants from the CEF yet, according to the Commission\u2019s climate commissioner Wopke Hoekstra. &#8220;This is the largest call under the current CEF Transport programme. The selected projects will help transform Europe\u2019s transport network, making cleaner transport modes more efficient and attractive for passengers and freight while enhancing safety across the TEN-T\u201d, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am especially pleased that several projects supporting the EU-Ukraine Solidarity Lanes have been funded.
