{"id":8884,"date":"2024-02-06T07:57:08","date_gmt":"2024-02-05T21:57:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/?p=115249"},"modified":"2024-02-06T07:57:08","modified_gmt":"2024-02-05T21:57:08","slug":"designs-at-beaconsfield-level-crossing-removal-revealed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=8884","title":{"rendered":"Designs at Beaconsfield level crossing removal revealed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Final designs for the new road bridge that will remove the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railexpress.com.au\/beaconsfield-crossing-bears-the-brunt\/\">dangerous and congested<\/a> level crossing at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bigbuild.vic.gov.au\/projects\/level-crossing-removal-project\/projects\/station-street-beaconsfield\">Station Street, Beaconsfield<\/a> have been released.<\/strong><span id=\"more-115249\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Incorporating feedback received from community consultation in 2023, the updated designs maintain Beaconsfield\u2019s village atmosphere and reflect the community\u2019s desire for easy pedestrian and vehicle access around the new road bridge, while blending in with the natural surroundings of the suburb.<\/p>\n<p>The boom gates at Station Street, Beaconsfield will be gone for good and the new road bridge open in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson today announced works are ramping up to take cars over the Pakenham Line, which will improve safety and provide better access for the local community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cThe final designs are in and major works are in full swing to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing at Station Street, Beaconsfield, making local roads safer and easing traffic for road users,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">\u201cWhen the crossing is removed it will bring the Pakenham Line one step closer to being boom gate-free, transforming the way people work, live and travel in Melbourne\u2019s south-east.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">The designs maintain the village atmosphere of Beaconsfield and reflect the community\u2019s desire for easy access around the new road bridge for pedestrians and vehicles, while blending in with the natural surroundings of the suburb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Construction crews will work around the clock south of rail line until late February to prepare for major piling works, ahead of the bridge foundations being completed later this year.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Kenilworth Avenue will be temporarily closed to vehicles in both directions from 4 February to 24 February, with detours in place while piling works are carried out.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Further up the line, work continues to remove the level crossing at Brunt Road, with the new road bridge set to open in 2024 \u2013 a year ahead of schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">These works, along with another three level crossings being removed at Main Street, McGregor Road and Racecourse Road, will make the Pakenham Line boom gate free \u2013 boosting safety and easing congestion in Melbourne\u2019s south-eastern suburbs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Work is progressing well at the new premium Pakenham Station \u2013 which is set to offer improved accessibility facilities to passengers. The metropolitan rail line is also being extended 2km as teams work to build the new East Pakenham Station.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"text-align-justify\"><span lang=\"EN-US\" xml:lang=\"EN-US\">Other improvements for passengers on the line will include the Metro Tunnel, which will create a new continuous rail line from Sunbury in the west to Cranbourne and Pakenham \u2013 slashing travel times and adding 45 per cent more peak capacity.
