The project entails work on six tunnels and 16 overpasses along the line, which will be adapted to fit the P400 profile of semi-trailers.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-54425\"><\/span>At the end of 2023, Spain also decided to upgrade the rail sidings between Zaragoza and Tarragona to accommodate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/infrastructure\/2023\/11\/03\/spain-invests-for-standard-gauge-750-metre-sidings-along-med-corridor\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">750-metre freight trains<\/a>. Once upgraded, the Zaragoza-Tarragona line will be the extension of the Algeciras-Zaragoza rolling highway service, Adif specified.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/infrastructure\/2024\/07\/11\/spain-takes-another-step-towards-reopening-of-border-crossing-through-the-pyrenees\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Railway-in-Canfranc-128x128.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/infrastructure\/2024\/07\/11\/spain-takes-another-step-towards-reopening-of-border-crossing-through-the-pyrenees\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">Spain takes another step towards reopening of border crossing through the Pyrenees<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>Rolling highways in Spain<\/h2>\n<p>For the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/infrastructure\/2024\/03\/21\/spain-allocates-468-millions-for-the-algeciras-zaragoza-rolling-highway\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Algeciras-Zaragoza<\/a>, the Spanish IM is currently working on adapting 43 tunnels and 131 overpasses for the transit of semi-trailers, an investment of about 468 million euros. The grand opening of the Algeciras-Zaragoza rolling highway service was expected for the of this year, but it was recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/corridors\/2023\/11\/28\/opening-of-algeciras-zaragoza-rolling-highway-postponed-indefinitely\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">delayed indefinitely<\/a> due to lack of rolling stock and the necessary infrastructure upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>Other than Algeciras-Zaragoza and Zaragoza-Tarragona, Adif is exploring the possibility of implementing rolling highway services along 13 more routes. One of them, connecting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/intermodal\/2024\/07\/02\/trucks-to-move-onto-the-rail-as-madrid-valencia-rolling-highway-takes-off\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">Madrid with Valencia<\/a>, became operational a couple of weeks ago.
