National NAIDOC Week<\/a> celebrations are held across Australia each year during July. This year, NAIDOC Week will be celebrated from\u00a07 to 14 July 2024.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate, recognise and learn about the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.<\/p>\n

Adelaide Metro is celebrating NAIDOC Week with a welcome to passengers at Adelaide Railway Station.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Cecil Buckskin, a proud Kaurna man\u00a0and Cultural Liaison Officer at the Department for Infrastructure and Transport has been welcoming passengers to Adelaide Railway Station and Kaurna land, as NAIDOC Week celebrations begin across the public transport network. The welcome is currently looping on platform screens until\u00a014 July 2024.<\/p>\n

Buckskin hopes his welcome will capture people’s attention on their daily commute and encourage them to reflect on Kaurna culture.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

As well as Buckskin\u2019s welcome during NAIDOC Week, the Urapun Muy (On Fire) tram is currently in service across the Adelaide Metro network.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The tram design<\/a> was created by Torres Strait Islander and national NAIDOC Week poster competition winner, Deb Belyea.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Deb\u2019s artwork shows ancestors hands placing an ember into a burning fire and represents the sharing of cultural knowledge from one generation to the next.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

This year’s theme, \u2018Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud\u2019 is incorporated in the tram design and digital signage around the network.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
