Following strike action undertaken by airport staff across Germany, a total of 918 flights to and from German airports were canceled on Thursday, February 1. That represents 32% of departures and 22% of arrivals scheduled in Germany on that day. Let\u2019s take a look at the 6 airports most affected by these cancellations.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Which airports were most affected?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Frankfurt (FRA)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Hamburg (HAM)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Berlin (BER)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Bremen (BRE)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Dresden (DRS)<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Leipzig (LEJ) <\/span><\/a>were most severely impacted by flight cancellations on February 1st.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A total of 910 flights were canceled at these airports.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Frankfurt (FRA) <\/span><\/a>saw the highest number of total cancellations, with 32% of departures and 25% of arriving flights canceled, a total of 301 flights. Whilst only 16 flights were canceled at <\/span>Dresden (DRS)<\/span><\/a>, this represented 100% of scheduled airport movements on that day.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Which airlines were most affected?<\/span><\/h3>\n

Cancellations at German airports directly impacted 571 flights operated by 57 airlines at the above airports. The most affected airlines by number of canceled flights were <\/span>Lufthansa (LH)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Eurowings (EW)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Austrian (OS)<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Swiss (LX)<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Turkish Airlines (TK)<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It is unsurprising that German airlines saw the most impact. <\/span>Lufthansa<\/span><\/a> canceled a total of 163 flights on February 1st, that\u2019s 15% of the airline\u2019s schedule. The majority of these flights were destined for European destinations. <\/span>Eurowings<\/span><\/a> saw a total of 92 cancellations, representing 53% of total scheduled movements.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A small number of longer distance flights operated by airlines including <\/span>United<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Delta Air Lines<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>Cathay Pacific<\/span><\/a>, <\/span>LATAM<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Japan Airlines<\/span><\/a> were also cancelled.<\/span><\/p>\n
