AW gee, oh boy, it sure did sound swell. But sorry folks, Disneyland ain\u2019t heading here anytime soon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Victoria has long been touted as Disney\u2019s preferred location for an Australian theme park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was whipped into a fairyfloss frenzy after the American-based Walt Disney Company announced it was looking at a $60-billion plan to \u201caccelerate and expand investment\u201d in its parks and experiences division.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But while we don\u2019t want to kill off Bambi or Mickey Mouse, we can say that Disney will not be heading to Avalon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shucks!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mickey Mouse ears hat. Disney.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The locality northeast of Geelong has always been considered prime space for an entertainment theme park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Avalon Airport chair David Fox told Page 13 the airport had started conversations with the global entertainment giant about hosting a theme park in the area as early as 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But in the end it did not meet the bottom line, with the Linfox boss now focusing on creating job precincts in the retail, eCommerce, industrial and aviation space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But no Disneyland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cNo,\u201d Fox laughed. \u201cSure we had discussions which started seven or eight years ago but no.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s that joke about Mickey and Goofy? Anyway I\u2019m not going there.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We best not either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So with Avalon officially off the Space Mountain rollercoaster it\u2019s time for other regions to step up. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, then Lord Mayor Sally Capp called on the company to bring one of its parks Down Under, citing Fishermans Bend as a possible location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disney Dandenong has a nice ring? Or Disney Frankston anybody?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
