{"id":797,"date":"2023-06-06T09:00:39","date_gmt":"2023-06-05T23:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?guid=d319dcf3fcf4b0f0813d09db4fc18aed"},"modified":"2023-06-06T09:00:39","modified_gmt":"2023-06-05T23:00:39","slug":"return-of-full-orbiter-service-signals-end-of-bus-driver-shortage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=797","title":{"rendered":"Return of full Orbiter service signals end of bus driver shortage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greater Christchurch\u2019s bus woes are almost over, according to the regional council, which manages the Metro bus network.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canterbury (ECan) has declared an end to the bus driver shortage, announcing the last of its disrupted services would resume its regular schedule on July 3.<\/p>\n<p>The Orbiter would return to running every 10 minutes between 8am and 6pm weekdays, instead of every 15 minutes, as it had been\u00a0since December 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Express services 1X, 5X and 95X are also back to normal after drivers had to pick up passengers from non-express stops.<\/p>\n<p>Figures provided by ECan showed\u00a0more than 15,000 bus trips\u00a0were cancelled throughout greater Christchurch between October 2022 and January 2023 \u2013 an average of 127 a day.<\/p>\n<p>ECan general manager public transport Stewart Gibbon said cancellations peaked in October 2022 when 4300 trips were cancelled in a single month.<\/p>\n<p>Cancellations had dropped rapidly \u201cover the last few months\u201d, with no missed trips since mid-May, he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Greater Christchurch\u2019s bus woes are almost over, according to the regional council, which manages the Metro bus network.
