{"id":7967,"date":"2024-02-02T12:37:38","date_gmt":"2024-02-02T02:37:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=7967"},"modified":"2024-02-02T12:37:38","modified_gmt":"2024-02-02T02:37:38","slug":"never-mind-the-gap-showcases-career-opportunities-in-rail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=7967","title":{"rendered":"Never Mind The Gap showcases career opportunities in rail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lner.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LNER<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.networkrail.co.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Network Rail<\/a> are proud to have supported the \u2018Never Mind The Gap\u2019 initiative offering work experience and highlighting the opportunities open for women in the rail industry.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Through a joint partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/womeninrail.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Women in Rail<\/a>, \u2018Never Mind The Gap\u2019 provides training and placements for women who want to get their career \u2018on track\u2019 after a period out of work, either following career breaks or redundancy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This year women from York and Doncaster have been taking part in the scheme, some of whom have previously worked in the health and media industries.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Each of them has had the opportunity of direct one-to-one experience with rail industry colleagues working in areas of interest to them.\u00a0 As well as hands-on work experience, they have also taken part in three days of training, including interview skills and CV writing tips and they were treated to a First-Class journey with LNER to London King\u2019s Cross, where they were given the rare opportunity to scale the roof of the historic station.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Over a fortnight, the group gained work experience at LNER as well as Network Rail and rail company Siemens across a variety of different roles. These roles have included the engineering team, communications team, health and wellbeing, onboard and station teams and visit to LNER\u2019s virtual reality simulator.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Anne Southby, former journalist and one of this year\u2019s Never Mind the Gap cohort, said: \u201cIt is a fantastic programme. Like many women, I thought a career in Rail was mainly for men \u2013 but there really isn\u2019t anything women can\u2019t do. There are so many roles and exciting opportunities available. Everyone is so supportive, encouraging and kind. Just go for it \u2013 you never know where it will lead.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Claire Ansley, People and Customer Experience Director at LNER, said: \u201cThere are so many fantastic career opportunities in rail, and we are delighted to be able to showcase some of the roles available. \u2018Never Mind The Gap\u2019 is a great way to share an insight into our industry and offers a perfect opportunity for women who are returning from a career break, or who simply want to pursue new challenges.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Birtles, Network Rail\u2019s Head of Customer &amp; Station Transformation and Chair of Women in Rail Yorkshire, said: \u201cThis initiative is so important in enabling women to experience the variety career opportunities available to them in the rail industry.
